Rare October Snowfall

Armagh Observatory reports that the snowfall this week on the 28th and 29th October was the first time that snow had fallen in Armagh in October for almost 75 years, that is, since 30th and 31st October 1934.

Going back to 1880, there were three previous October snowfalls in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, namely, 24th October 1896, 29th October 1906 and 26th October 1917.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
