Second Warmest September on Record

Armagh Observatory reports that September was warmer, sunnier and wetter than average.

The mean monthly temperature was 15.0 degrees Celsius (59.1 degrees Fahrenheit), that is, much higher than the average value of 12.8 degrees C. Last month was thus the second warmest September in Armagh since records began at Armagh Observatory in 1796. Only 1865 had a higher value of 15.4 degrees C. There was one night with a ground frost, the 8th.

Rainfall amounted to 112.4 mm (4.43 inches), that is, about 50% more than the average of 76.1mm. This makes last month the wettest September since 1999 (158.9 mm).

The number of hours of sunshine during the month was 116.5, compared with the norm of 105 hours.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
