Hottest Three Days Since Records Began

Armagh Observatory reports that this week has been one of the hottest on record in Armagh, with exceptional maximum temperatures.

The highest temperature, recorded on Tuesday 18th July, was 29.9 degrees Celsius (85.8 degrees Fahrenheit). This was the third highest Armagh temperature since at least August 1843 when these types of measurement began.

The maximum temperature reached over 29 degrees Celsius on three days in succession, the first time that this has happened since records began. On Monday 17th the maximum was 29.5 C, on Tuesday 18th it was 29.9 C, while on Wednesday 19th the mercury reached 29.6 C.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Armagh was 30.3 degrees Celsius (86.5 degrees Fahrenheit) which occurred on 10th July 1934. The next two highest temperatures, both 30.0 degrees C, were on 13th July 1983 and 19th June 1989.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
