Weather in July

Armagh Observatory reports that the average weather conditions last month were fairly typical for July.

Rainfall amounted to 66.9 mm which compares with the average monthly figure of 68.1 mm.

The number of hours of sunshine was 118.5, slightly below the norm of 129 hours.

The mean monthly temperature was 13.5 degrees Celsius, somewhat lower than the average value of 15.0 degrees. However, the hottest day of the year so far was the 11th with a maximum temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius (82.9 degrees Fahrenheit). This was the hottest July day for 16 years (1989: 29.3 degrees C, 84.7 degrees F) and the 11th highest July temperature in the last 160 years, since tabulations began in Armagh in 1844. The highest-ever recorded July temperature in Armagh occurred in 1934 (30.3 degrees C, 86.6 degrees F).

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
