Meteorological measurements at Armagh Observatory indicate that August was wetter, warmer and sunnier than usual.
Wetter and Warmer August
Rainfall amounted to 100.7 mm (4 inches), that is, about 25% higher than the average of 81 mm (3.19 in). However, this is still far short of the maximum August rainfall ever recorded in Armagh, 178.9 mm in 1892. The highest daily rainfall last month was 41.3 mm on 18th.
The mean monthly temperature was 16.4 degrees Celsius (61.5 degrees Fahrenheit), that is, 1.7 degrees C higher than the average figure.
Sunshine was significantly more that usual at 166.2 hours, compared with the norm of 133 hours.
