Another Mild November
1 December 2001
Armagh Observatory reports that last month was exceptionally dry, mild and dull compared to a normal November.
Rainfall amounted to 39.3 mm, one half the average of 77.7 mm. Last month was the driest November at Armagh since 1989 (25.1mm).
The average temperature for the month was 8.2 degrees Celsius, almost 2 degrees above the November average of 6.3 degrees. Apart from two even warmer Novembers in 1994 and 1997, this was the warmest November for more than 50 years.
Despite the temperature there was very little sunshine. Only 35.6 hours of sunshine were recorded compared with the average of 57 hours. This makes last month the dullest November since 1983 when there were just 27.5 hours.
These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
