Sir John Houghton, former co-chair of the Scientific Assessment Working Group of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be speaking at the Market Place Theatre, Armagh, at 7.45pm on Tuesday 15th May. The lecture "God, Science and Global Warming" will describe how Sir John has put his Christian faith alongside his science, finding that they have a lot more in common than is generally supposed.

Tickets priced at 7.50 pounds can be obtained from the Market Place Theatre (Tel: 028-3752-1821; URL: www.marketplacearmagh.com). The price includes light refreshments from 7.00pm. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by BBC Presenter Mark Carruthers with questions and contributions from the audience.

Members of the Panel will include Father Timothy Bartlett (author of the pastoral reflection on climate change "The Cry of the Earth"), Professor Valerie Hall (Emeritus Professor of Palaeoecology at Queen's University Belfast) and Michael Nugent (Chairman of Atheist Ireland). With Sir John as the keynote speaker and with such a group of experts this promises to be an enjoyable and enlightening evening.

Associated with the Lecture are afternoon Tours of the City of Armagh's main attractions, and packages for overnight stays. Those who may wish to participate in a tour of the Armagh Observatory, starting at either 2.30pm or 4.00pm, are advised to contact the Armagh Tourist Information Centre either by E-mail (ticat signarmagh.gov.uk) or Telephone (028-3752-1800) to reserve a space, as the number of available places may be limited.
