OBJECTIVE The Board of Armagh Credit Union is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to ensuring that the talents and resources of all staff are utilised to the full. The objective of this policy is to promote equality of opportunity and fair participation, and ensure that Armagh Credit Union will not discriminate directly or indirectly against any member of staff or job applicant in any aspects of the credit union's activities, including matters of recruitment, promotion and training or selection for any position, job transfer or redundancy on the grounds of religious belief or political opinion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, trade union membership, colour, race or ethnic origins. POLICY 1. To achieve the objectives, the Board will implement the following policy : 2. Appoint a Staff Liaison Officer who will monitor all aspects of the EOP and its implementation. 3. In addition to such legal requirements as are imposed by legislation, the Board will fulfill their moral and social obligations to promote equality of opportunity within the community. 4. The Board will establish policies and procedures designed to promote equality of opportunity. 5. The Board will consult annually with recognised trade unions with a view to reaching agreement to ensure that the equal opportunity policy and all employment procedures and practices remain effective and will modify their provisions where necessary. 6. The Board will provide facilities for any employee who believes that he or she has been treated unfairly within the scope of this policy to raise the matter through the grievance procedure outlined in this policy. 7. Armagh Credit Union not permit activities such as the display of flags, emblems, posters, graffiti or the circulation of materials or the deliberate articulation of slogans or songs which are likely to give offence or cause apprehension to any employee of Armagh Credit Union or applicant for employment on the grounds of religious belief or political opinion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, trade union membership, colour, race or ethnic origin. 8. Any employee of Armagh Credit Union who wishes to raise a complaint under the procedures contained in this policy will be advised that the procedures will not affect his/her statutory rights. 9. This policy will be publicised in the staff-room, with copies distributed to all staff, including temporary staff. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. All employees and volunteers of Armagh Credit Union have a responsibility to promote and ensure equality of opportunity, to avoid direct or indirect discrimination, and to avoid any form of harassment or victimisation. 2. Specific responsibilities fall upon the Board/Management and those involved in recruitment, selection and employee administration for ensuring that this policy is implemented. The Board Staff Liaison Officer will be responsible for the provision of advice, training, and guidelines for policy implementation and operation and for the review of effectiveness. 3. Any employee of Armagh Credit Union who fails to comply with this Policy may be liable for disciplinary action which in serious cases may result in dismissal. PROCEDURES 1. The Board will ensure that all recruitment, selection and appointment procedures provide equality of opportunity so that no person shall be disadvantaged by any condition or requirement which is neither justified nor required for the job. MONITORING 1. Armagh Credit Union is not a "registered concern" within the meaning of the Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1989 but complies with all the regulations contained therein.
