Faulkes Telescope Observations
Asteroids, comets
During our time at the observatory we booked time on a telescope in
Haleakala, Hawaii to observe several comets and asteroids, including a
near-earth asteroid BP58, which was discovered in 2009. We collected three
consecutive images of BP58 and used software called GAIA. On GAIA we overlaid
the images to see the movement of the asteroid. Once the asteroid was
recognised and, with some checks made for error, we found the Right
Ascension and Declination. We sent these results to the
Minor Planet Centre.
Other targets observed and results sent to Minor Planet Centre:
near-earth asteroids 337866, 411201, Sisyphus, 2016 CJ30
suspected Martian Trojan asteroid 2016 CP31
comet P/2016 BA14 (PANSTARRS)

DS9. Images obtained using 1 meter
telescope at Siding Spring, operated by Las Cumbres Observatory.
The reflection nebula Messier 78. Three colour images obtained using the
Faulkes Telescope North at Haleakala, operated by Las Cumbres Observatory.
We are very grateful to
Las Cumbres Observatory and the
Faulkes Telescope Project
for this observing opportunity.
