Each year, a limited number of school students spend a few days on work experience placement at the Armagh Observatory. They participate in a variety of activities carried out by Observatory staff, including taking daily weather readings, performing simple administrative activities, and attending research seminars.
Students are encouraged to carry out a short project in which they search for and read recent articles on a subject of their choice, and write a brief essay based on their reading. Some of these essays are reproduced here.
During the summer vacations, a similarly small number of university students spend three to six weeks engaged on a number of scientific projects supervised by Observatory staff. Some of the reports arising from these projects are reproduced here.
