Lindsay Centennial Symposium
The Observatory will hold a one-day conference and public lecture on 2007 January 26, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the former director, Dr E.M. Lindsay. The Lindsay Centennial Symposium "E.M. Lindsay and Astronomy in Ireland", will provide historical talks accessible to amateur astronomers and the general public, as well as scientific talks providing an overview of particular areas of modern astronomical research.
The meeting will begin with an invited talk by Maire Brück, who will speak on "Armagh, Dunsink and the Early Days of the Irish Astronomical Society", and it will close with an evening Public Lecture by Dr Allan Chapman, entitled "Robert Ball: Ireland's Astronomical Muse". Other confirmed talks so far include those by John Butler ("The Armagh-Dunsink-Harvard Telescope --- from Dream to Oblivion") and Tom Mason ("Lindsay and Armagh Planetarium").
