The Journal will consider for publication papers on all aspects of astronomy: observational, theoretical, instrumentation, technological and historical. Papers on related topics such as geophysics and climatology will also be considered. All publications remain copyright of the Irish Astronomical Journal. Application for permission to quote from this Journal should be addressed both to the authors concerned and the Editor-in-Chief of the IAJ. The opinions expressed in contributions to the journal are the responsibility of the authors and are not necessarily those of the publication committee.
Research Papers are self-explanatory expositions of original research work which have not been previously published (except in abstract form, preliminary note, lecture or thesis) and which are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Research Notes are shorter papers (maximum four pages) that contain new results or extensions of work reported in an earlier paper but which do not warrant the status of full research papers. The journal will also consider for publication as Research Notes summaries of previously published original work provided that this is mentioned in the abstract of the submitted manuscript.
Letters are short communications (maximum four pages) describing new important results which deserve prompt publication. Letters may contain short technical or non-technical comment, discussion or elaboration on previously published papers.
Invited Reviews are occasionally commissioned by the journal to provide thorough reviews of specific astronomical topics by recognized authors.
Features are papers of general interest which do not present original research work in astronomy and cover any aspect of astronomical interest. The editors reserve the right to publish submissions under any of the above descriptions.
Manuscripts should preferably be submitted in electronic form either to the electronic email address or on 3.5 inch IBM compatible floppy disks in plain ASCII format only. Non-IBM compatible (e.g. Macintosh) disks cannot be accepted. Authors must also submit a triplicate copy of manuscripts on single-sided A4 size paper with double-spaced text. Figures and illustrations, which should be of a quality allowing substantial reduction, should accompany manuscripts. Papers submitted to the IAJ may be referred to peer referees. The editors reserve the right to make minor editorial alterations to submitted manuscripts before publication.
Observatory reports, review papers, articles and dissertation summaries are also considered for publication. In addition the journal publishes the work of the Astronomical Science Group of Ireland.
The Editors welcome communication of all kinds with subscribers worldwide. All correspondence and requests for further information regarding submissions, subscriptions and advertising should be addressed to the editorial office.
