Heritage Policy

The Observatory's heritage policy is to maintain and preserve the historic buildings, telescopes, telescope domes, scientific instruments and other material in its care, to place restored instruments and artefacts in their original locations in the building so far as possible, and to add to and maintain the integrity of the historic Library and Archives as a coherent, growing collection for future generations. In this way, members of the public, researchers and others who visit the Observatory will be able to appreciate more clearly the conjunction of the `old' and the `new' at Armagh, and to comprehend the development of modern astronomy in the context of the historical development of astronomy as a whole.
