Armagh Observatory and Planetarium Appointment of Members to the Management Committee
The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure is seeking to appoint up to four members to the Management Committee of Armagh Observatory and Planetarium. The Management Committee has an interesting and challenging role within an astronomical research institute whose functions include the conduct of front-line scientific research in astronomy and related sciences and the pursuit of a high profile programme of education and outreach. Skills and Experience The Department wishes to bring a strong skills mix particularly in the area of corporate governance and public accountability to its Ministerial Appointments on all the Boards of DCAL's sponsored bodies.

Essential Criteria
· Experience in governance in the community and voluntary sector, public sector or private sector including overseeing the development and implementation of corporate strategies and annual business plans. · Previous membership of a board or committee which has responsibility for staff and / or financial resources. · Experience as a practitioner or advisor in accountancy, business, communications, community development, education, finance, law, marketing or tourism; · Experience of, and commitment to, the positive promotion of equality and social inclusion, as well as the principles of anti-discrimination, through either professional or voluntary activity. · An informed interest in astronomy, museums, archives or related sciences and experience in the dissemination of such knowledge across all sectors of society. Terms of Appointment, Time Commitment and Remuneration · These appointments are for a term of up to 4 years from 1 May 2014. · Members are likely to require a time commitment of at least 4 days per year up to a maximum of 8 days per year. · Members will attract no remuneration but may claim reasonable travel and subsistence allowances.
