Subject: Asteroid McKenna, New Magazine, Radio, TV, Events, IAA BBQ

Hi all,

1. I forgot to mention that the naming of the asteroid for Martin
McKenna was suggested by John McConnell, who was the first amateur
astronomer in Ireland to have an asteroid named after him: No 9929
McConnell. Martin is also renowned for his legendary eyesight - and if
anyone can discover a comet from Ireland, it's him! He's also doing a
photographic search for novae. And sorry for the typo - Martin was 'IFAS
astronomer of the year' for 2005, not 1995! (I had 1995 in my mind as
the year the asteroid was discovered.) More details on: www.eaas.co.uk

2. NEW ASTRONOMY MAGAZINE FOR AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS  -  PRACTICAL
ASTRONOMER

4.EVENT: Wed 24 May, 9.30am - 5.00pm, St Patrick's Trian, Armagh: Armagh
Heritage Day - a free one-day conference to describe and promote the
wealth of Armagh's historic and cultural heritage. Tours available in

5 Advance notice of the IAA midsummer BBQ, on 24 June, held as usual in
the beautiful and historic grounds of Armagh Obsevatory, courtesy of its
Director, Prof Mark Bailey. We start at about 3 p.m. with some events
(tba), with cooking & eating about 5.30 - 6ish. Admission free - just
'bring your own' eats & drinks. More details later.
