(1.) Funded Postgraduate Position in Astrophysics, Dublin City University

A funded postgraduate position is available to work on a joint Dublin City 
University and Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies project in star formation. 
This position will be based at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Dublin 
City University and is associated with the Cosmogrid consortium (see 
www.cpsmogrid.ie).

The successful candidate should have, or expect to obtain in 2005, a first 
class honours or upper second class honours primary degree in mathematics, 
physics, or a related subject. The project will involve using numerical simulations 
of star formation to study how this process affects the local environment 
around the young star. Modern parallel processing techniques and very high-spec 
computer resources will be used in this project, so some knowledge of 
computational methods would be an advantage.

It is envisaged that the successful candidate will carry out work leading to 
the award of a PhD and will commence during or before October, 2005. The 
stipend for this position will be Euro 18,000 per annum, including fees. Additional 
funding for travel and equipment is also associated with this position.

(2.)Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies  JETSET Postdoctoral Fellowships 
and Studentships in Understanding Jets from Young Stars

As part of the Marie Curie Research Training Network Programme, the European 
Commission has recently provided funding for a new network called JETSET. The 
network is co-ordinated by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (Prof Tom 
Ray, trcp.dias.ie) and will bring together researchers working on 
observations, theory, computational modelling (including grid computing) and laboratory 
experiments centred on understanding outflows from young stars. The network 
links eleven European institutions and 80 researchers. Applications are now 
invited for 6 Postdoctoral Fellowships and 11 PhD Studentships in the following 
fields: 

1: Models of MHD Jets in Young Stars: 2 Fellowships in Athens and Grenoble, 2 
Studentships in Porto and Turin
2: The Observed Structure and Propagation of Stellar Jets: 1 Fellowship in 
Florence and 3 Studentships in Turin, Porto and Grenoble 
3: The Molecular Counterparts and Effects of Jets on their Environment: 1 
Fellowship in Tautenburg and 2 Studentships in Rome
4: The Structure and Propagation of Laboratory Jets: 2 Studentships in London
5: Large Numerical Simulations of Jets using Grid Technology: 1 Fellowship in 
Dublin and 2 Studentships in Heidelberg
6: Global Approach: 1 Fellowship in Dublin
