From: TerryMoselaol.com Date: Wed, 27 Apr 2005 20:37:22 EDT Subject: New IAA Council, BBQ Hi all, I was still so shell-shocked at receiving the Opik Award last night that I forgot to mention the new IAA council, and also that the Opik Award itself consisted of a lovely painting of Armagh Observatory by well-known artist Joe Hynes. That was particularly appropriate, as I 'cut my astronomical teeth' using the lovely old 10-inch Grubb refractor at Armagh Observatory with Patrick Moore in the second half of the Sixties (I know, I don't look that old - I started very young...!). The IAA AGM elected the following to the Council for the coming year: President: Dr Andy McCrea Vice Presidents: George Brannan, Pat O'Neill Secretary: Danny Collins Treasurer: John Hall Members: Philip Baxter, Ken Doyle, Robert Hill, Jacquie Milligan, Terry Moseley, Dr Seamus Quinn. Ex Officio: Prof Mark Bailey (Director, Armagh Observatory), Dr Tom Mason (Director, Armagh Planetarium). Our next scheduled event is our annual Midsummer BBQ at Armagh Observatory, courtesy of Prof Mark Bailey, on Sat 18 June, at 3 p.m. All IAA members and guests are very welcome, plus of course the staff etc of the Observatory & Planetarium. More details nearer the time. Clear Skies, Terry Moseley
