From: TerryMoselaol.com Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 17:06:05 EDT Subject: Venus on Radio! Hi all, There will be several Radio Programmes about the Venus Transit over the next few days. In chronological order (not ranked by authority of speaker!) 1. I will be doing a live interview on Good Morning Ulster, Radio Ulster, tomorrow (Wed 2nd) morning, sometime between 8.45 & 9.0 a.m. 2. The second part of the 2-part Radio 4 series on the Venus Transit will be on Wed 2nd, BBC Radio 4, 21:00 - 21:30. Astronomer and writer Duncan Steel (who has lectured here) investigates the Earth's sister planet and finds out why it's definitely not the place for a package holiday. If you missed the first part, you can get it on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/venusacrossthesun.shtml3. I'll be on Downtown Radio on Sunday, 1.0, with Margie Warden, on "Landlines", also talking about the Transit. And just another reminder that the IAA will be holding its public observing event for the Transit in Botanic Gardens, Belfast, from about 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday 8th until the Transit ends after noon. We will have an internet link-up in case it is cloudy, plus an exhibition & a CD on the history & importance of these transits. All will be welcome! We will be observing just round the corner from the main entrance to the Ulster Museum, Stranmillis Road. Just go on past the main door, turn right, and walk till you come to an open grassy area. We'll have signs etc up. More details soon on access, parking, etc.I should also have mentioned that the two Venus events that morning at Glenlola Collegiate School, Newtownards, and St Patrick's Secondary School, Lisburn, are being run under the aegis or 'umbrella' of the IAA.Clear Skies to all.Terry From: TerryMoselaol.com Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 19:43:49 EDT Subject: Venus at Armagh, B'mena, Bushmills, etc. Hi all, I forgot to mention that there will also be viewing of the Transit at Armagh Observatory, using the 10" Grubb refractor, or the Meade SCT, if clear. There is also a free exhibition about Venus Transits, in the Observatory, open to the public from 10 - 11 a.m., and 3 - 4 p.m., Monday to Friday up to 11 June. See: http://star.arm.ac.uk/venustransit/exhibit/ for details. Groups of more than 6 are requested to contact in advance Mrs Aileen McKee: tel 028 (048 from ROI) 3751-2950, E: ambn@arm.ac.uk EAAS are also running a public viewing event at the 7 Towers Roundabout, at Ballymena. And the Institute of Physics & local schools will be having a public viewing event at the Giant's Causeway Car Park, Bushmills, Co Antrim. CORRECTIONS: 1. Glenlola Collegiate School is in Bangor, not Newtownards. 2. And my interview on Downtown, on "Margie's Magazine" (new name), will be on between 2.0 & 3.0 on Sunday - sorry for confusion! See also these sites:and giving details of other viewing events in Ireland. Clear Skies to all, Terry Moseley
