Chirp ionosonde ionogram processing software

To improve the quality of ionograms and to carry out on automatic ionogram processing we have developed a special software, which can be arbitraly devided into the following main parts:

  • Primary signal detection software;
  • Vertical bands determining software (interference noise) on the basis of entropy properties;
  • Ionogram processing software on the basis of rotational histograms method;
  • Ionogram processing software on the basis of neural nets;
  • Ionogram processing software on the basis of image processing;
  • Interactive ionogram processing software.

The primary detection procedure implies mainly level processing and filtering.

For a automatic ionogram processing we have developed a software on the basis of the rotational histogram method, neural sets, and image processing. The differing sets of programs are dictated by different kinds of ionograms under geophysical conditions.

For automatic oblique ionogram processing we have developed a package which is based on rotational histograms and image processing. In this case we use long-run predictor results as an a priori information.

The algorithm of back-scattering ionogram processing is analogous to the one just described above.

In some cases there are complicated ionograms whose interpretation is difficult. In such cases we use an interactive ionogram processing, which combines the features of automatic and semi-automatic processing.

Here we present ionogram samples for different kinds of chirp sounding.
