Laboratory for the Stellar Magnetism Study of SAO of the RAS - Physics and Evolution of Magnetic and Related Stars 2014 - Announcements

International Conference "Physics and Evolution of Magnetic and Related Stars"

Special Astrophysical Observatory, Russia
25 – 31 August, 2014
First Announcement

The observations of stellar magnetic fields is a powerful method of studying the behavior of plasma under the astrophysical conditions. The world's largest telescopes are equipped with special tools for magnetic measurements. Magnetic fields are generated along with the stars and evolve with them. It is hence impossible to understand the origins of stars and stellar systems not studying the stellar magnetism.

The study of magnetic fields is one of the major observational programs running on the 6-m BTA telescope of the SAO RAS. For over 40 years the tools for magnetic measurements were developed and modernized by the Laboratory of Stellar Magnetism Studies, they also perform the observations on the 6-m telescope . Extensive observational material was obtained, which we estimate to be over 6,000 observations of different objects, making up a significant proportion of the entire world's collection. Thus, our observatory is a recognized center which has long been examining magnetic stellar fields.

Every 3-4 years in late August the Observatory hosts international conferences on Magnetic Stars. We hold them for over 30 years and the present conference will be the ninth. Traditionally our conferences consider a wide range of problems concerning the physics and evolution of magnetic stars of different types. As always, we are planning to publish a collection of the Proceedings of this conference.

This conference will be held from 25 to 31 August 2014 in the conference hall of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. The closest airport Mineralnye Vody is located in a 2-hour flight from Moscow. Each of the three international airports in Moscow (Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo) has several flights a day performed to Mineralnye Vody. The airport serves international flights as well. This is why the stop at Moscow is not mandatory. The distance from the observatory to the airport is about 200 km. The Organizing Committee will organize the transfers to and from the airport to the observatory participants (free).

The planned day of arrival is August 25, the day of departure is September 1, 2014.

The registration fee is 2,500 Russian rubles (about 50 Euro) and can be paid at registration. It includes coffee breaks, excursions and Conference Proceedings.

The observatory has a hotel that can accommodate the participants, as well as a restaurant with three meals. The details will be announced later.

We ask the citizens of those countries who require visas to the Russian Federation to address the organizing committee for the formal conference invitation letter by May 1, 2014 . The processing of invitations may take quite a while.
