Scott Randall

I am an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in the High Energy Astrophysics Division, and a member of the Chandra X-ray Observatory Mission Planning Science Operations Team. My research interests include clusters and groups of galaxies, high-energy astrophysics, X-ray astronomy, large-scale structure, cosmology, dark matter, and AGN feedback.
Chandra X-ray image (left) and Voronoi Tessellation temperature map (right) of the core of the Abell 2052 galaxy cluster. Enormous bubbles are blown into the hot intracluster gas by a supermassive black hole powering the central AGN.
Mosaic of 9 Chandra observations of M86 and the surrounding field. Point sources have been removed. The long tail is formed by ram pressure stripping as M86 falls into the Virgo cluster of galaxies (off image to the lower left) and interacts with the Virgo ICM. A high-resolution version of the paper on these data is available here.
