BIO FOR MY LE DUCHARME

Ms. My Le (mee-LAY) Ducharme has been at the Smithsonian for over 10 years,
spending most of her time as a research assistant to a micropaleontologist
at Natural History and as a public outreach coordinator in the Department
of Paleobiology. While at Natural History, Ducharme put the primary type
foraminifera collection online (images and metadata), developed the
Department's first web site, managed 3 pro bono web site projects, and co-
authored a chapter on "Paleontological and geochemical constraints on
changes in the deep ocean during the Cretaceous greenhouse interval"
published in Warm Climates in Earth History by Cambridge University Press
(2000).

Since the fall of 2004, she has been working for the Under Secretary's
office on the SIguide project, a technology project that will deliver
museum content and information through wireless, handheld mobile devices to
Smithsonian visitors at 5 museums: National Postal Museum, The Castle
Building, National Museum of American History, National Air and Space
Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, and National Museum of Natural
History. The project will launch publicly in 4 of the venues sometime this
summer. In January 2006, she officially joined the OUSS staff, and has
continued to work on the SIguide project as well as working on science
communications efforts.

Her main goal vis Ю vis science communications is to increase the public
awareness of Smithsonian science research by a) increasing communications
with other Smithsonian offices; b) identifying a process for the flow of
information to different constituents and drafting a communications
strategy with the Ofc. of Public Affairs; c) promoting the Under Secretary
as a spokesperson for Smithsonian science; and d) improving and increasing
opportunities to disseminate science research news both internally and
externally. Ducharme received her Bachelors degree in geology from Smith
College, and her Masters degree in Technology, Innovation, and Education
(TIE) from Harvard University, where she worked on her thesis at Harvard
Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. She can be reached at
