Home Page for the hacked NCL shell for IRAF

NCL: IRAF cl with command line editing

Ncl is a hack of the IRAF cl that adds tcsh-like command-line editing. Developed in the early 1990's, we do not really support it anymore. However, it still seems to work and we will continue to make it available so long as it does.

To build the software, you simply unpack the tar file and type "mkpkg" from within the cl. This will create an executable called ncl.e which you can move into the IRAF bin directory containing the canonical cl.e program. You then should make a copy of the IRAF cl script that was generated during your installation process, rename this copy to ncl, and change its program references from cl.e to ncl.e. Running this ncl script should result in an IRAF cl that supports line editing.

If you have problems, feel free to contact us.
