The Colors Menu

The Colors Menu

The color menu displays a list of available colormaps. Each frame in SAOtng can have its own colormap. A newly chosen colormap becomes the default colormap for new images in that frame (until changed by choosing another colormap). The current colormap is displayed below the menu.

Two types of colormaps are supported: continuous and discrete. The continuous colormaps (the first list of displayed colormaps in the Colors menu) allow you to manipulate the contrast/bias of all colors in the colormap at once using the right mouse button in the image frame. This is a two-dimensional adjustment tied to the position of the mouse, one dimension adjusting the contrast, the other the bias. Discrete colormaps (second section of colormaps in the Colors menu) allow you to modify the bias level of one color at a time. In both cases, the resulting colormap is displayed in the colorbar below the image. See Adjusting Contrast and Bias.

The Invert Colormap menu option will invert the colormap values. The GUI Color Schemes menu allows you to change the color scheme of the SAOtng GUI. It was originally made available to deal with colormap problems, that is, so that you could make the GUI black and white without having to restart the program. It now is made available as over-kill!

Users can add their own colormaps. See Adding New Colormaps to SAOtng.
