VIEW OUT OF THE WINDOW FROM  MAINE, USA

Dear Students in Russia,

Wow what a surprise.... so nice to hear from you... we hear from a
school teacher in Argentina the other day... unfortunately it is Summer
vacation there and will be until mid - March.  Today our weather was a
mild + 19 C and no wind.  We usually keep the binds closed at our school
because it looks out upon a first and second grade playground and is
distracting to my students.... plus the builders of our school (1969) put in windows with aluminium casing... which as we all know conduct cold ... boy were they stupid... The sky was an overcast gray all day. The sun never came out.  Regarding the ice... we have had TOO MUCH this
year ... and our State of Maine just finished cleaning up from the worst
ice storm in 100 years.... power was out for 3 to 14 days in many places
and emergency shelters had to be opened for those that did not have wood
or coal stoves, propane stoves, or lanterns.
Luckily, I had all of these and found myself lending aid to neighbors and friends.  Many blame the MILD winter ... more ice than snow on El Nino the wind off the western coast of the United States.... Snow covers our ground and the last of the ice made a hard one inch cover that really can make walking in unplowed areas slippery.  Of course, our students love skiing, hockey and the new concept of snowboarding... Hope to hear from you again soon

Regards,
Peter
