American Birthday traditions in White Rock, New Jersey, USA

We usually have a party on my birthday. We eat a cake,  have presents and sing "Happy Birthday". In our country when someone turns to be 50 years old we call that "over the hill" to show that they are getting old.

We have a big party and play jokes on birthday people.

I usually go to my grandma's house and have gifts.

I wake up, go to my living room, have a party with friends and relatives, open gifts and eat a cake that has the number of candles for how old you are.

In our country we celebrate the following birthdays more than any others: 16 (for girls, called "sweet 16"), 21, 40, 50 and 60.

When a birthday is at my house I go to school and my mom and dad come home early, so when I get home they are there with my present. My mom plans two birthdays: for my friends and for my family.

Me and my older brother have close birthdays, so we usually celebrate them together. For our party we eat cake for dessert and pizza for dinner.

For my birthday my mom and sister wake me up and sing "Happy birthday". At school we bring in treats and share them with the class. After school i would celebrate with my family.

Hope it'll help you.
Regards

At my birthday we play games. Then we open the presents and eat cake. Then we set up camp at our house. When it gets dark out, we watch a scary movie. Then we have an outdoor campfire. Then we sleep in a tent or in a tree house. In the morning, we play video games (it's an electronic game.) My birthday is on June 13.

When it is my birthday my mom and dad took me to Chuck E. Cheese to eat pizza and play. And we went swimming and ate ice cream. We got to eat cake, candy, and my mom bought me presents. She bought me a Gameboy and my Dad gave me a five dollar bill. My friends come over to my house and my brother Jesse gave me a Pokeman card. Then we went to play football and me andmy two brothers went ice skating and we have very, very much fun. And my mom went too. Then we went to Burger King to eat,
then we went to the park and we played soccer with my dad. Then we went to the store and we bought candy. Then there are ten more dollars so my mom bought me a toy.

On my birthday, my whole family comes and everyone brings presents. My grandma bakes a cake. We go places I want, like Chuck E. Cheese. My brother and I play with
my cousins. Then we eat supper and eat cake and open presents. Then we play and talk together. Then everyone goes home.

My birthday is special because I have a twin and it's on October 31, 1990. At my house a lot of times we just stay home and relatives come over. We usually talk then we eat supper. Mostly for my birthday we have chicken or sloppy joe's (it's a kind of meat on a
bun). Then after supper, we open our presents. They're mostly toys or clothes. Then after that we have cake and since my birthday is on Halloween, where you dress up in costumes and go to houses and get candy, we go trick-or-treating with our friends and adults. Then after that we eat our candy and go to bed.

On my birthday we go to grandma's house and once we get there we play games. When we are tired, we watch TV. When we get hungry, we eat healthy food, and when we are done with that, we eat cake. We put 9 candles on it. Then I blow out the candles. Then we open presents. My birthday is Nov. 12, 1990.

My brother and I are twins. We have our birthday on the same day. It is on May 10. When we have our birthday, we have our friends or cousins come over. We eat
special food and cake, and sometimes candy. Sometimes I get spankings.

On my birthday I do back flips on the ground. We measure each other. I blow out the candles.eat the cake, and then do my favorite thing: swimming! We swim all the
time. You know what else? We get to order a dump tank. You might even be invited too. I could have 18 people invited.

On September 15, 1990 on my birthday we go to a roller rink with my friends and skate and eat all day long. Then after all that we have to take them home. The next day we have a party for the family and do things at home with my family, eat and open presents. Then my party is over until another year comes.

Traditions by Deb Regal

Ususally, children receive the majority of the festive birthday
celebrations. Families invite other family members and friends to a
party held at the family's home. There the child is treated to many
presents, decorated cake with candles lit (one for each year of the
child's age), and ice cream. There is a song sung to the child:

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear (child's name).
Happy birthday to you.

The child makes a secret wish and then blows out the candle flames.
With help, the child then makes the first cut in the cake after making
another secret wish.

Decorations for the party include balloons and crepe paper with banners
announcing the child's age and happy birthday.

Parties for the child's friends are separate from the adult family
parties. The children's parties include games like musical chairs, pin
the tail on the donkey and others. The trend is now for children's
parties to feature paid entertainers like clowns or magicians.

Parties for adult birthdays are often "surprise" parties where the
birthday person has no knowledge of the party until he or she arrives
and all the guests shout "surprise!" Most often adult birthdays are
only recognized for "milestones" like 30, 50 and 100. Gag gifts and
funny messages are often sent at such years. Other years, people may
receive only cards from their close friends and family.
