Photo album: Japan: Kyoto and Nara, August 1997

This set is over 200 shots in total. It probably does not make sense to view them all one-by-one, so I split them into some kind of "guided tours" which cover about 90% of available material. The rest is either extremely poor ones (ultimately wrong exposures) or has uninteresting subject. Day-by-day lines contain complete set and intended for those who have been there (I mean, in Kyoto :)

You should choose your path according connection speed and screen resolution. Large format is mainly for 1600x1200 screens and fast link (pictures are up to 150K in size). Normal is for typical 1024x768 screen (i.e. 15" monitors). If your video adapter gives only 256 colours in some particular resolution, forget it. High colour (64K colours) is required, otherwise pictures will look poor. True colour (24 bits per pixel, 16M colours) is better but isn't really necessary. I also recommend Trinitron-style monitor because it gives crisp and vivid images. Trinitron tubes are manufactured by Sony (true Trinitron), ViewSonic (SonicTron), Mitsubishi (DiamondTron).

I use ViewSonic PT775 (17") and Matrox Millennium with 4MB WRAM; resolution is 1600x1200 at 64K colours and 77Hz refresh rate. Photos look incredible on it. My favourite browser is IBM WebExplorer for OS/2. Scans were made on Microtek ScanMaker E6, 600 dpi, 30 bit. Original resolution is 200 dpi; photos were scaled to appropriate resolution (excluding some XL size pictures which did not need scaling). Software used for scanning: Microtek ScanWizard TWAIN driver, Ulead PhotoImpact 3.01 under Windoze 95; postprocessing (cropping, scaling, converting into JPEG) was done under OS/2 with PMView 1.00. Kodak Gold and Fuji films were used. All shots are done with Zenit 3M camera, Helios 44 objective.

On the photos, you'll see two main characters: Irina Mironova and Sergey Ayukov (myself).
