upgrading your DOOM2 version to 1.9)
- Download the zip file for your version of DOOM2 and unzip the file
in your DOOM2 directory.
- To install SOS DOOM2, type "sosinst2". You only need to do this
installation once. Your DOOM2 EXE will not be modified.
- To play SOS DOOM2, type "sosdoom2"
- Enjoy!

DOOM2 upgrade to version 1.9
---------------------------

The Dehacked patch included in SOSDOOM2-0.2 is for DOOM2 version 1.9
If you have earlier versions of DOOM2, please upgrade to 1.9 using the
free patches from ID Software:

http://www.idsoftware.com/doomarc.html

Non-DOS DOOM2 platforms
----------------------

The included wad file sos203.wad will *not* work alone with the
"-file" flag of DOOM. In order to patch it into a playable wad,
you need to use "deusf", which is included in the deutex package
and available for the following platforms: DEC Alpha OSF/1, SGI,
Linux and OS/2. Download the version of deutex/deusf appropriate
to your platform from:

http://www.cdrom.com/pub/doom/utils/graphics_edit/deutex/
or ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/doom/utils/graphics_edit/deutex/

After you extracted deusf from the package, put doom2.wad in the
same directory (symbolic link's OK), and do:

deusf -app sos203.wad

This will patch sos203.wad so that it'll be playable using the
usual command:

doom -file sos203.wad

Some replacements (in particular text replacements) require
the DOOM2 EXE editor "Dehacked", which has a beta version for
Linux/SGI. You can download the source

ftp://ftp.cc.gatech.edu/pub/linux/games/doom/ldhe-src.0.8a.tar.gz

and try to compile, or you can try the binary distribution for Linux:

ftp://ftp.cc.gatech.edu/pub/linux/games/doom/ldhe-bin.0.8a.tar.gz

(requires X11R6). Once installed, follow the instructions given and
try to run dehacked with the patch file sosdoom2.deh. (In our version
of Dehacked for Linux, there were errors when applying the patch, so
only some of the hacks from the patch were applied. This is probably
due to the fact that Linux DOOM is only up to version 1.8 instead of
1.9, which is the version the Dehacked patch was designed for) This will
produce a new DOOM EXE which you name "sosdoom2" for example. It can
then be played by:

sosdoom2 -file sos203.wad

Things to do:
-------------

- More graphics replacement
- Replace remaining weapons with SM weapons
- More Monsters replacements
- More Sound effects replacements
- New levels
