The project of the scientific - educational small satellite for research of Earth upper atmosphere density Belokonov I.V.,
At the end of 80th years in Kuybishev aviation institute (nowadays the Samara State Aerospace University) has been developed the project of small spherical satellite " PION ", intended as for a calibration of ground resources of tracing behind space objects, and for refinement of density of upper atmosphere of the Earth. In period with 1989 on 1992 such six satellites have been launched. Results of experiments admitted useful both for perfecting radar aids of a space control, and for improvement of navigation-ballistic support of low-altitude space vehicles. Observation behind of spherical objects orbits (their slowdown is a known way of definition of density of upper atmosphere of the Earth. This task will save the urgency until space vehicles at altitudes up to 400 km will be maintained. For determination of atmospheric density it is necessary to know the aerodynamics of the object of observation and its orientation relative wind of rarefied gas. These reasons lie in the of choice of the spherical form of satellite PION and they can be adopted for the offered satellite. However basic difference of the offered project is refusal from usage of the conventional ground infrastructure used now for navigation-ballistic tracking and a control behind motion of space vehicles, that sharply reduces the price of implementation of the project and, in case of success, will create premises for creation of the permanent system of Earth upper atmosphere monitoring. For reaching this effect it is offered to use successfully existing state-of-the-art commercial information and telecommunication environment - satellite radio navigation systems such as GPS/GLONASS, low-orbital communication satellite systems such as GlobalStar/Iridium/Orbcomm, a global INTERNET network. Creation of such satellite will allow to research dynamics of Earth upper atmosphere density, including its short-period variations.
The main applied problems of the project are:
- Improvement of the technology of continuous monitoring of Earth upper atmosphere density for improvement of quality of operating navigation-ballistic tracking low-altitude space vehicles;
- Improvement of the technology of usage of navigation receivers for operating definition of Earth upper atmosphere with a minimum time lag;
- Improvement of the technology of support of constant access to onboard satellite systems and transmission of scientific data from the satellite to customers with usage of low-altitude communications satellites networks (Global Star, OrbЯomm) and a global INTERNET network the (without usage of existing ground control centers);
- Improvement of the perspective damping system of satellite.
The educational tasks decided by the project:
- Improvement of educational technologies of the remote training using direct access to the process of measurements in orbit;
- Improvement of quality of student education on space trades at the expense of possibility of involvement in designing and manufacture of the small satellite, access to the process of direct measurement of parameters of motion, obtaining and processing of the measuring information;
- Created in support of the project available information resource in the INTERNET will advocate reaching of cosmonautics especially among youth.
Customers of the information at implementation of the project can be all interested persons from citizens up to educational organizations and the space agencies launching and operating space vehicles which are interested in decreasing costs of maintenance of orbits of existing low-altitude space vehicles, rise of reliability and quality of space operations, decrease of a time and complexity of search of recoverable capsules.
The nature protection benefit of the project consists of lowering risks and scales of possible damage from catastrophes which can be generated uncontrollable deorbit of the abnormal or fulfilled its resource space vehicles.
