The first Ukrainian nanosatellite - mail goals and complex of scientific instruments
Korepanov V.E., Lizunov G.V. , Kozak L.V.,

The goal of the project FORTUNA is to carry out the fundamental scientific investigations of ionosphere physics and to develop the methods of near-Earth space monitoring. This is the common project of Lviv Center of Institute of Space Research of National Academy of Science of Ukraine National Space Agency of Ukraine, Yuzhnoye Design Office and young scientists and students of leading universities of Ukraine. Scientific goals of the project include: measurements of thin structure of electric currents and electromagnetic fields in the ionosphere plasma; measurements of kinetic parameters of the plasma; correlative analysis of the connection of ionosphere disturbances with meteorological and seismic activity; For realization of mentioned above tasks the following complex of scientific instruments was worked out: three-component flux-gate magnetometer; wave probe; electric field sensors; kinetic plasma parameters sensor. Proposed orbit of the nanosatellite is polar and circular, the altitude is up to 450 km. Such an orbit will allow to cover all the Earth s surface and intersections of the main morphological regions of ionosphere: polar cusps, etc. On some its turns the satellite will be passing over the heating stands of Radio-astronomical institutions of National Academy of Science of Ukraine (Kharkiv) and acoustic source of Lviv Center of Institute of Space Research of National Academy of Science of Ukraine National Space Agency of Ukraine (Lviv), which gives the possibility to carry out the coordinated experiments in the atmosphere heating and registration of the effects from the satellite onboard. There will also be a possibility to investigate the influence of a powerful heating complex onto auroral ionosphere when the satellite will be flying over European ionosphere association EISCAT (Tromse, Norway). The use of the nanosatellite will allow to register both the ionosphere disturbances caused by solar and geomagnetic activity and ionosphere responses form the natural and technogenic influences from below. The launch of nanosatellite FORTUNA is scheduled for 2009. The research was partly supported by NSAU Contract 1-02/03 (1274).
