Brief report about the conference "University Satellites and Space Science Education" (Moscow, June 26-30, 2006)

The First International Symposium on Space Education "UNIVERSAT-2006" was held in Moscow on June 26-30, 2006. It was hosted by Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics. The scientific program of UNIVERSAT-2006 covered a wide area of topics centered around the theme "Space Education and University Satellites".

It consisted of four sections:

Over 100 persons - professors, doctors and students from Russia, USA, Austria, France, Belgium, China, Poland, Taiwan, Mexico, Armenia took part in UNIVERSAT-2006. They have presented over 70 oral and poster reports.

Among the oral reports there were invited ones, which attracted the most active attention: professor Hans Haubold reported about the United Nations Basic Space Science Initiative, professor Y.-S. Chen from National Space Organization in Taiwan have told about NSPO's microsatellite program, doctor Valentina Kravtsova presented the series of atlases obtained due to methods of space images interpretation as a new tool for remote sensing education in Earth sciences, doctor Victoria Mayorova presented BAUMANETS microsatellite project. Invited report of Dr. Norma B. Crosby "Coupling of Atmospheric Layers EU FP5 RTN Project: Engaging Scientists in Training and Outreach Activities" has shown the possible ways of future educational activity.

The first scientific results (UV and space charged particle monitoring) obtained by the "Universitetskiy" satellite were presented by students.

The participants have visited the SINP Space Physics Practice Laboratory and Mission Control Center in MSU and went for the excursion to Korolev Mission Control Center.
