AAS Electronic Notification Service - Announcement #35 1/97
[Mailed from aas.org at 4:55PM 8 JAN 1997]

3. ELECTRONIC ASTROPHYSICAL JOURNAL DEBUTS

The full Astrophysical Journal is now on line beginning with the
1 January issue at:

http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/ApJ/

Like the ApJ Letters, it features links to references as well as to
citations and contains all the material contained in the paper
version.

Institutional licenses allow anyone at the institution to read the
journal. Personal, password-controlled member subscriptions are
available for $80; this makes the journal accessible from any computer
on the Internet. Free access will be permitted during the next two
months, after which a subscription will be required to access the
electronic version.

Subscription inquiries and orders should be directed to
Sharon Savoy at ssavoy@aas.org.

4. INTERLINKED ASTRONOMY RESOURCES

A number of astronomical journals, data centers and the NASA/Astrophysics
Data System (ADS) will officially launch an informal collaboration at the
Toronto AAS meeting [начало января 1997 г. - ред]. Named Urania, the
distributed digital resources are effectively interlinked to provide
astronomers smooth functionality between the various electronic resources.
The journals will follow the functionality of the electronic Astrophysical
Journal, relying upon the bibliographic information in the ADS to provide
access to the abstracts, images of the older journal papers, and data.
Similarly, from the object oriented data centers, access to the original
articles will also be a simple matter of one or two hypertext links.

After 13 January, more information will be available at:

http://www.aas.org/Urania/
