The spectrograph is designed for detailed studies of extended objects - galaxies and HII regions with a moderate spectral resolution. It is installed in the prime focus of the 6-m telescope of Special Astrophysical Observatory RAS. The updated Universal Astronomical Grating Spectrograph (UAGS, Carl Zeiss Jena) with a fast Schmidt camera is a base of the Long Slit Spectrograph (LSS). A cryostated Charge Coupled Device (CCD) detector is built inside the Schmidt camera. LSS is remotelycontrolled (shutter, angle of grating and a comparison spectrum system). A local TV-guide system attached to LSS is used to position the observed object in the spectrograph slit and to guide it during exposure.
The present modification of LSS is used on 6-m telescope from November 1994. It was realized in the Laboratory of Spectroscopy and Photometry of Extragalactic Objects of SAO RAS.
Note: 'Fast spectrograph of the 6-m telescope prime focus' and/or 'UAGS + CCD' are often used as a name of this spectrograph too.
