SciSim SPRs:Help on simple search

The SciSim SPR search service helps you to find Software problem reports in the SciSim SPR database. You tell the search service what you are looking for by typing in a word or pattern, selecting items from the pull down menus and the check boxes.

Once you are satisfied with your search query, you can press the search button. The search service will return a list of SPRs matching your query, which in turn you can visit by clicking on them.

If a field in the search form is omitted, the search service will assume that you are looking for any match for that particular field. In fact, if you just press the search button right away, the search service will return all SPRs

All items selected are AND'ed together, that is, the search service will return only those SPRs that matches all conditions.
 

Using patterns

A word (SPR Id & Title) can also be a regular expression. A regular expression is a way of describing a set of characters without having to list al the characters in that set.
 
Pattern What does it match?
foo The string foo
^foo foo at the beginning of string.
foo$ foo at end of string
^foo$ foo as the only word of string
[Bb][aui]g Bag, bag, Bug, bug, Big  or big
^..$ Any string that contains exactly two characters
^\. Any string that starts with a dot
ab*a aa, aba, abba, etc...
[A-Z][A-Z]* One or more uppercase letters
[0-9]+ One or more numbers
[^A-Za-z0-9] Any symbol that is not letter or number
fl(y|ies) fly  or flies

 

Using Pull down menus

When pressed, a pull down menu gives the user a list of preset values. Only one of the values in the list can be selected.
 
 
 

Using Check Box groups

The check box group shows a list of values, each preceded by a small box. Clicking on such a box will turn the value listed ON or OFF. All values checked (switched ON) in the group are OR'ed together.

For example, if the values normal and minor are checked the severity group. The search service will return any SPR that have a severity of normal or minor, but not major.
