SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 04/28/97

		SMOV STATUS & PLANNING MEETING - 28 APR. 97
			http://www.stsci.edu/smov/

NOTE: The next meeting is April 30, 8:30 AM.

STATUS REPORTS

1. Observatory Status - All systems nominal.

PCS - Several instances of defaulting to one-FGS guiding were
reported. The problem is believed to be due to guide star
	      "quality" problems. Investigation continues.

2. WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and
	remaining SMOV monitors.

3. NICMOS Status

	- Engineering Status - Nominal

Detector 1 Mounting Cup temperature is stable at 61.09 degK.
VCS temperature is 98.05 degK, an increase of ~ 0.2 from last
		report.

  	- Science Status

The team reports detection of particulate contaminants on Camera 1
and Camera 3. The contaminants appear in several small
groups 2-3 pixels across, and affecting a total of 100-150
pixels. The camera 1 particles come and go, but are
spacially invariant with respect to the detector, show a
small change in postion with respect to the vignetting edge,
and do not move along with the coronographic hole motion.
They are cold with respect to the external dewar. Therefore,
the evidence is interpreted to mean that the contaminants are
inside the detectors. It is difficult to determine when the
phenomenon first appeared, but may be roughly coincident
with the start of dewar expansion. Analysis continues.

The planetary nebula target for the Grism Validation (7055) did
not appear in the field of view. Reason unknown. The
spacecraft appeared to be pointing correctly. Problem is
		still under study.

The latest focus monitor shows a continued movement towards
nominal for both the Camera 3 focus and for the Coronagraphic
		hole.

ERO data continue to be analyzed.

4. STIS Status

	- Engineering Status

The CCD behaved nominally over the weekend. The
ERO 7123 looks "wonderful." Everything is in place
for today's start of the MAMA high-voltage testing,
planned to span this week, through to Wednesday of next
		week.

The plans are to continue identify potential SAA CCD impacts
in various modes, and to meet next Monday to start deter-
		mining the operational reactions.

5. FGS status

	    - FRR planned for 10:00 am Thursday, 1 May, @GSFC
-- SMOV analysis results, plans for PDB and on-board table
updates (currently being worked for inclusion in SMS139),
and any other details that need to be discussed and agreed
to. (Being organized by Eric Isaac).

6. FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete. The SMOV TTRB has
enabled the resumption of FOC science.

PLANNING REPORTS

1. Status of Upcoming SMSs

	- SMS118 - Currently executing.

	- SMS125 - The calendar is complete. This SMS will contain the last
piece of MAMA HV Turn-On (7105) on day 127 (May 7).
		 - Initial Mode products are out for review.
		 - Needs bad-pixel table prior to Final Mode run.

	- SMS132 - Calendar building is nearly finished. SARs wend out
		   Friday.

	- SMS139 - Calendar building to begins today. Will contain
regular MAMA operations and the first use of FGS-1R
		   as a guider.

2. Replans

	STIS

	- MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is currently planned for SMS118.
Downstream MAMA scheduling has been assessed. According to
the latest plan, regular MAMA SMOV operations are to start
	  in the SMS 139.

	NICMOS

	- No significant replans have yet been identified.

OPERATIONS STATUS

1. OPUS

	No new problems to report.

Software delivery 6.3 installation is delayed til Wednesday.
		- As a workaround, STIS MAMA data will be FTP'd to
scientists but not Archived. If necessary raw POD files can
be processed on the development system.

The ERO 7123 needed special processing over the weekend, because
of OPUS difficulty in handling auto-wavecals and GO wavecals in same
	proposal.

2. Archive - Getting a quick fix for KW-related problems in processing
	STIS data.analysis
