HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT #1140

PERIOD COVERED: 0700 EST
Daily Status Report as of 137/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-4546. The
observations were executed as scheduled. Two observations were
received and displayed. No problems were noted.

1.2 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/1 5417 (A Search for the Physical
Processes on Jupiter)

The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make spectral
observations of the planet Jupiter looking for atomic hydrogen
emissions. Five observations were received and displayed in the OSS.
They were reported to look satisfactory. Subsequent observations
still remain on Science Tape Recorder #3, and will be analyzed
later.

1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration:
Internal Monitor: Darks)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark
exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and
to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. Four images
were received and displayed in the OSS. All four images were
reported to look okay.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5465 (WF/PC-2 Imaging of Two Galaxies at Z=1.2)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of galaxy cluster 3C324 at
Z=1.2. The observations were executed as scheduled. Three
observations were received and displayed in the OSS. They were
reported to look fine.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5570 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats,
Large Set)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make a set of Earth flat calibration images
using different filters in order to construct high quality flat
fields of the OTA illumination pattern. A total of 16 images were
received and displayed. Exposures take with the F375N filter showed
faint "worm-like" features. No other anomalies were noted.

1.6 Completed S/C 5582 (FOC/48 Monthly Activation (Camera Section Only):
Cycle 4)

This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were
noted.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5454 (Ellipticals with Kinematically Distinct
Cores: Cycle 4 Medium)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the small elliptical
galaxy
NGC-5982 which contains a massive core which is kinematically
distinct from the rest of the galaxy. The observations were executed
as scheduled, and the observations still remain on Science Tape
Recorder #3, and will analyzed later. No anomalies were noted.

1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal
Monitor. 1)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat
calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the
optical alignment, and for contamination. The observations were
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the active galactic
nuclei of galaxy UGC-3995. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies have been noted.

1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C192.0
as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology.
The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were
noted.

1.13 Completed FOC/96 5147 (High Resolution Observations of Symbiotic
Variables: Cycle 4)

The Faint Object Camera was used to make observations of the
symbiotic star Nova Cygni 1992 which is known to possess complex
surrounding emission nebulosities. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle
4)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the
prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take
pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the
galactic plane. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were noted.

1.15 Completed GHRS/1 5373 (Excitation Processes for the Ultraviolet Day
Glow of Jupiter: Cycle 4)

The High Resolution spectrograph (Side One) was used to make
observations looking for molecular hydrogen emissions in the Jovian
equatorial atmosphere. The observations were executed as scheduled,
and no anomalies were noted.
