“Mariner” (English "Mariner" - a sailor) is an american autometic interplanet series for Venus, Mers, Mercury and Space investigations. They are designed for the planets flight and bringing in to the planetocentrial orbits. The maximum starting mass of "Mariner" is about 1 tone. In 1962 - 1973 10 "Mariners were launched.

The surveys made by "Mariner-4" showed that Mars is also covered with the craters. The mass of the planet and its atmosphere was calculated.
