The INTERNATIONAL MAX PLANCK RESEARCH SCHOOL (IMPRS) for
ASTRONOMY and COSMIC PHYSICS at the UNIVERSITY of
HEIDELBERG
announces
the
HEIDELBERG SUMMER SCHOOL on
the
INTERSTELLAR
MEDIUM
September 25 - 29, 2006
Our understanding of the Interstellar
Medium has considerably increased during the past years pushed forward
by rapid advances in observational and instrumental techniques and in
the theoretical modeling.
The IMPRS Summer School 2006
aims: (1) to present an overview of this progress; (2) to bring
together students of various research areas; (3) to encourage young
researchers and advanced students to continue research in these fields;
(4) to strengthen future interdisciplinary research of the interstellar
medium.
The major topics being considered during the school
are:
Multi-phase model of the interstellar medium - analytic
tracers - radio astronomy - atomic gas - ionized gas - cosmic dust
- molecular clouds - extragalactic interstellar medium - HST
key results: resolved stellar systems & the distant
universe
Invited lecturers:

THOMAS HENNING, Max
Planck Institute for Astronomy, Heidelberg
ROBERT WILLIAMS,
Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore
Applications for
participation are invited from graduate students and early post-docs
working in scientific disciplines related to the content of the summer
school.
A limited number of grants are available to partially cover
travel expenses.
Deadline for application is June 30,
2006.
