Bright Supernovae - 2007.

Bright Supernovae - 2007

This data comes from IAU Circulars and occasionally more data will be provided on IAU's Astronomical Headlines page. An archive of the 2007 updates to this page is available.

This is a list of the supernovae discovered in 2007. For supernovae which are still visible, please look at the main page for the latest data.   Note that Extra galactic Novae have been moved to a special Extra galactic novae page.   For more information, you can look at the following Supernova Catalogs:

  • IAU List of Supernovae since 1885
  • Mike Richmond's Supernova list

For the year 2007, 599 supernovae (including 14 unannounced) have been reported (a new record!) (557 last year).   The brightest supernova reported for the year so far is 2007it at mag 12.0 (prediscovery) followed by 2007sr at mag 12.8, 2007gi at mag 12.9, 2007af at mag 13.0, and 2007gr at mag 13.0
