Summary. The paper deals with the problem of building up a genotypical image of an actant based on the content in which the actant's relations with gods, nature, assistants and enemies are reflected. In their relations functional qualitative characteristics of the actant are revealed creating the image of its name. Semantic characteristics form the structure of the name that reflects the structure of the actant's image in mythological consciousness. The name `Odyssey' reveals such meanings that give this name a symbolic status. The author claims that the lexeme `Odyssey' means a notion, and the notion is reflected in the "constellation" of meanings. Semantics of the given lexeme as a significative unit is defined on the basis of the seme analysis that allows to determine positive and negative semes, thus presuming that Odyssey as a symbol is included in the "heroism -- antiheroism" constellation. . , .
