The Chancellor, Dr. Federico M. Matheu is the Chief Executive Officer of Universidad Metropolitana (UMETO and reports directly to the president of SUAGM, Dr. Jose F. Mendez. The Chancellor is a highly qualified professional who has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburg and vast experience in Higher Education that spans 34 years. Dr. Matheu is a distinguished educator in Puerto Rico recognized for his commitment to innovation and school reform initiatives. From 1974 to 1977 he was the Executive Secretary of the Commission of Educational Reform to propose legislation to overhaul the Island's educational system at all levels. During the years 1991 to 1996 he was the founder and Executive Director of the Puerto Rico General Education Council, a body enacted by law to establish a system of licensing and accreditation for public and private schools (K-12) and post-secondary institutions. He was the Chancellor of the following institutions: Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) - Humacao (3 years), lnteramerican University, San German Campus (13 years) and currently at UMET (15 years).
