The Arecibo Observatory Space Academy (AOSA) is part of the ObservatoryòÀÙs initiative to increase public engagement and development of new generation of space scientist and explorers. The Academy offers three programs:ˆàPre-College Research, Teacher Training workshops and the Space Academy Summer Camp Pilot Program.

SPACE ACADEMY PRE COLLEGE PROGRAMˆà[Applications now Closed]
A ten (10) week program for pre-college students where they work together and along undergraduate students, in the development of a research project related to Space Exploration, and Humans in Space. During the program students develop their skills in mathematics, scientific research and English as a Second Language while they polish their understanding of the Scientific Method. During the course of the program, students record their data and share their knowledge with their peers. Cadets of the Space Academy use a scientific and reflective journal to keep their weekly entries and are expected to be in continuous communication with their team during the week. Cadets meet Saturdays 9am to 3pm. Students seeking admission to the academy must have: 1. Basic Computer skills 2. Continuous internet/email access 3. Advanced understanding of the English language 4. A Scientific Journal To apply to the AOSA program students must be in 10-12th grade at time of participation, applicant must present: a 500 Word Essay, a complete online application form, Resume, Supporting documents: School Authorization, Parent Authorization, School Transcript, three (3) recommendation letters from: Math, Science, and English Teachers;, and complete the pre- evaluation on the first day of the academy.
