Arecibo GPS-TEC Download Page

This site is where you can download data from the Arecibo dual-frequency ASHTECH MicroZ-CGRS GPS receiver and high quality choke-ring antenna. Go here for product details.

Files that can be downloaded include the daily RINEX files, the global broadcast files and JPL ionex files from NASA that are used in the computation of TEC, and the TEC data itself. TEC data are processed automatically daily when the ionex files become available (typically they are available in 5-7 days). The RINEX data is available for download immediately. In addition, a summary plot of the vertical TEC and the slant TEC are presented when the TEC has been computed.

To compute TEC, we use the method and code kindly provided by Drs. Bill Rideout and Anthea Coster at MIT Haystack. The format of the gzipped ascii TEC file is, by column:
1. sv #
2. time (float days since 1/1, where midnight 1/1=0.0)
3. az (degrees)
4. el (degrees)
5. slant code
6. slant TEC
7. vertical code
8. vertical TEC (TECU)
9. ratio of slant to vertical TEC
10. pierce point latitude (450 km)
11. pierce point longitude (450 km)

Data on this page is governed by the CEDAR Rules of the Road. Please contact Arecibo personnel before using any data.
