H I and OH in galactic globular clusters

The intra-cluster medium of globular clusters is continuously replenished with mass lost by red giant stars in these clusters. This mass is then stripp ed from the cluster and mixed with the interstellar medium of the parent galaxy as a result of ram pressure as the cluster crosses the galactic plane. Previous searches for this intra-cluster medium have had very limited success. We here prop ose to undertake the most sensitive ever survey for H I (at 21 cm) and OH (at 18 cm) gas within a sample of 11 galactic globular clusters, in order to b etter constrain the pro duction and retention of the intra-cluster medium.
