Proposal Title: Redo After Equipment Problem: NANOGrav precision timing, ISM irregularities
toward pulsar B1937+21
ABSTRACT:
We propose reobserving for an hour of lost time on project P2676, observing pulsar B1937+21 with PUPPI at
Lband. The error occurred due to an unforeseeable equipment failure with two aspects. The first occurred during
an inperson observing session when the entire system of PUPPI' s GPU nodes became nonresponsive for a half
hour during our scheduled time. Later, upon first analyzing the data, it quickly became clear that even the good
data from the second half hour of the observing session was problematic. After correspondence with colleagues, we
discovered that the error was in the instrument' s electronics, and that it had been present before our observation.
In light of these two independent instrumental problems which had occurred during our first hour of observing time
(followed by successful remote followup observations), we request an additional hour on B1937+21 during the late
afternoon/early evening hours. This can easily be done remotely.
