Urgent Proposal for Radar Observations of Near-Earth Asteroids 2010 JL33, (65679) 1989 UQ, and (207945) 1991 JW
ABSTRACT:
We propose radar observations of 2010 JL33, 1989 UQ, and 1991 JW at Arecibo during October-December, 2010. 2010 JL33 will be a very strong radar imaging target in early December, when it should be possible to obtain images with resolutions as fine as 7.5 m. 1989 UQ and 1991 JW are being considered as potential targets for human missions so there is considerable interest in their physical properties. They are detectable at useful signal-to-noise ratios if at least several hundred kilowatts of transmitter power are available. For the latter two ob jects, the 2010 apparition is the best for radar observations until after mid 2020s, the timeframe being considered for human missions.
