DATA ANALYSIS

There are currently a number of ways you can convert Arecibo data into other data formats, and a variety of support levels for different data analysis programs. As a result it is feasible to reduce your Arecibo data with a wide range of data reduction software.

To prevent individual observers from re-inventing the same programs, and working through the same bugs, over & over, we have compiled a description of all the various methods people have used, and are using, to reduce Arecibo data. This description is available online at http://www.naic.edu/ãstro/data. As usual, though, making this work requires that once you have reduced your Arecibo data we would greatly appreciate any information you are willing to share on your experiences, including any programs you may have written bugs you encountered, etc. to be sent to Karen O'Neil (koneil@naic.edu).

In the following two section we describe spectral line data analysis in two of the available data reduction packages - Analyz and AIPS++. For further information on these packages, as well as on other data reduction packages available at Arecibo (i.e. IDL), please go to http://www.naic.edu/ãstro/data.
