Cavendish Astrophysics - ALMA

ALMA
Atacama Large Millimetre Array

ASTROPHYSICS

The Cavendish Astrophysics group is closely involved in the ALMA project, a large millimetre/submillimetre interferometer, under construction in the Atacama desert in northern Chile. The UK Project Scientist, John Richer, is based in the group; we are also involved in developing phase correction algorithms using the water vapour radiometers (see our dedicated pages).

Previously, we were involved in three workpackages which formed part of Phase 1 (Design and Development) of ALMA - site characterisation, water vapour radiometry at 183 GHz, and electromagnetic simulation of the optical design.

For more information, go to the ALMA UK project home page.
