SKA Aperture Array in Australia

The low frequency Aperture Array elements for SKA are being developed at the Cavendish Laboratory; and we are pleased to announce that a test system has now been built on the SKA site. This is a 16 element array, so called AAVS0.5, and can test the performance of the elements at the super low radio frequency interference site in Western Australia.

The array mirrors an identical system built here at our LordтАЩs Bridge observatory, so testing can take place conveniently тАУ and around the clock!

The installation is a collaboration with ASTRON and Curtin University in Perth and is with the kind agreement of the Murchison Widefield Array, MWA, who are using this area of the Australian SKA site.
