"Instabilities of Current-Carrying MHD (non-rotating) Jets"

Astrophysical jets carry energy and particles from very small up to very large scales from the radius of the central object. From these regions, the highly collimated outflows propagate up to the distances so far away. This implies powerful stability and collimation taking into account that different instabilities can affect the evolution of jets. Moreover, their propagation is possibly changing the properties and evolution of the host galaxies and their environments through heating by shocks and/or mixing, and removing of gas by shocks and transfer of momentum. Thus, jet stability has been a significant research subject during the last decades. In this talk, I will present some recent results on the linear and non-linear stability analysis of non-relativistic magnetized jets carrying helical magnetic fields. Specifically, the role of Kelvinб Helmholtz and current- driven instabilities, and their impact on the jet morphology, jet braking and overall stability are analysed. I will discuss the non-linear evolution of jets with the aid of three-dimensional numerical simulations.
